2011 has been an awesome year for me. It was a year of thrills and great adventure, a year of many firsts. This year I experienced my first out of Luzon trip, first snorkeling, zip lining, rock climbing, spelunking adventures, first time in Solo Backpacking, first time in volunteering and child sponsorship, so forth and so on.
It has been a crazy yet fulfilling year of learning through new experiences, getting out of the bubble that was my comfort zone, meeting lovely new friends along the way, collecting treasured memories and ultimately traveling to those destinations I only dreamed about before. For these reasons I will always be thankful to God for giving me a wonderful 2011.
So before we put an end to this year’s chapter, I would like to share with you some of my best travel experiences for this year.
1. Puerto Princesa, Palawan
Travel Date: March 11-14, 2011
Jump, jump, jump at Pandan Island, Honda Bay, Palawan
Our family trip to the “Greenest city in the Philippines” last March is one of the highlights of my 2011. It was my first trip in more than two years since I’ve been entirely pre-occupied by my work & hospital duties and this trip was a form of personal reward for a year of isolation and sleepless nights. We came to the end of our journey. It was our last day in Boracay and a few more hours we had to leave the island and head back to the hectic life waiting for us in the big-jungle-of-a-city called Manila. So after the enjoyable bonding time we had from snorkeling at Crocodile Island, we make the most out of the few remaining hours we have left and without further ado we went off straight to this quaint little Island called Crystal Cove.
Entrance Fee: Php 200
Crystal Cove, formerly known as Tigwatian, is a 2.5 hectare island that is located Northeastern side of Boracay. Due to its proximity to Boracay, about 15 minutes away from Bolabog Beach, it has been a fave choice among adventurous island hoppers. The island which looks semi-abandoned from afar exudes a rustic yet elegant old world feel to it.

It was our last day in Boracay but we still couldn’t get enough of the place. The Island still has a million things to offer, which we would have gladly taken if only we have the luxury of time or the money to squander. But unfortunately, we were not that lucky, so instead we maximized our last remaining hours by doing an Island Hopping Tour.
Morning turned out to be sunny, a welcome change considering we have spent the last 3 days coping with the miserable weather. After a quick breakfast, consisting mostly of Cup Noodles, we immediately took off for our destinations of the day: Crocodile Island and Crystal Cove Island.
Once again we needed to rely on Kuya Giovanni (#0909.882.1798) to be our tour guide because we don’t have any clue where to go. Due to our excitement, we forgot to include this minor detail in our research. Mga excited kasi masyado! After much haggling and finally agreeing on the price of the tour, we went to D’ Talipapa and hired a tricyle (Fare: PHP75) that took us to Bolabog Beach.
